Big Mystery 03:42
Big Mystery I want to fire my guns I want to come out blazing like firewood But someone's got to hold this fort Someone's got to stay sane, as if anyone ever could And what I wouldn't give to walk down Sunset Boulevard And have all the lights shine just for us I would take us to the highest spot Look down on everything and everyone Until they're all just tiny dots Big, big, big mystery Big mystery in the sky Big, big, big mystery Lean down and save us tonight I want to shine like an emerald I want to wave like the sea I want to scream bloody murder Does anyone understand me? I want to cozy up to home I want to feel my roots grow through And through and through I want you all to myself Could there ever be just me and you? Big, big, big mystery Big mystery in the sky Big, big, big mystery Lean down and save us tonight This is the way that it should be This is a big, big game with big, big odds Come on, come on, play with me I want to shine like an emerald I want to wave like the sea I want you all to myself Could there ever be just you and me? Big, big, big mystery Big mystery in the sky Big, big, big mystery Lean down and save us tonight

Goodbye century. I never thought I’d see All of these miserable choices I’ve made Come rushing back to me It’s a breakdown of the nerves, it’s a mirror in front of me It’s a simple recollection of all of my time, It’s my goodbye century Today, I will look no further than Today, I will look no further than Today, I will look no further than Today, I will look no further, I will look no further Goodbye century, Goodbye calamity It’s a push over the edge, it’s the other side It’s my unbarred reverie It’s a simpler way to go, It’s a home where there was no home It’s a million other choices in front of me, My goodbye century Today, I will look no further than Today, I will look no further than Today, I will look no further than Today, I will look no further, I will look no further........... Today, I will look no further than Today, I will look no further than Today, I will look no further than Today, I will look no further, I will look no further Its a mirror in front of me, It’s a home where there was no home.

Suspended 05:00
So you stayed there ‘til 2:00, thought you’d keep your eye on her But keeping love for herself is like caging a bird and when she gives it away, she’ll be weak for a moment She’ll forget her own face, she’ll forget her own name Did you imagine that she would go running? Did you imagine horses wild in your head? She said, “I used to fall freely, I would have been at your feet I used to fall freely but something suspended me I used to fall freely, I would have been at your feet I used to fall freely but something suspended me” She just hangs from the sky, while he dreams of her love but she’s forgetting his face, she’s forgetting his name Did you imagine that she would go running? Did you imagine horses wild in your head? I used to fall freely, I would have been at your feet I used to fall freely but something suspended me I used to fall freely, I would have been at your feet I used to fall freely but something suspended me something suspended me something suspended me

Leo is angry at me most of the time I guess he has no mirror in his home He likes to say I ruined him I ruined him, I ruined him For a ruined man, he sure does carry on... But the truth is binding and I keep winding Down from the fights we have And breaks keep breaking, takers taking Everything in their path There's a bitter seed in the sweetest fruit There's a stockyard full of selfish ones There's Leo breathing down my back, Down my back, down my back There's a reason why I'm moving on... But the truth is binding and I keep winding Down from the fights we have And breaks keep breaking, takers taking Everything in their path Again, again, again, again, And more, more, no more, no You want everything, everything, everything Leo is angry at me most of the time I guess he has no mirror in his home He likes to say I ruined him I ruined him, I ruined him For a ruined man, he sure does carry on... But the truth is binding and I keep winding Down from the fights we have And breaks keep breaking, takers taking Everything in their path

LITTLE BIG TOWN You look like a statue in the sunlight on my lawn And you feel like marble, How long has this been going on? You look so aimless in the reflections Of the windows of downtown And you feel so nameless, A crownless king, we let you down In Little Big Town, baby, I wish you would Come on back to me It’s lonely in this town, maybe if I were to Get down on my knees And Little Big Town baby, it stretches as far as we can see And it would be all right, if you were here with me I ask you questions, And you simply nod your head In my direction, you say “Please just leave me for dead…” I wish I could tell you but I barely know myself And I know I need you but I can’t accept your help” In Little Big Town, baby, I wish you would Come on back to me It’s lonely in this town, maybe if I were to Get down on my knees And Little Big Town baby, it stretches as far as we can see And it would be all right, if you were here with me I know this town is small and everyone Knows each others’ lives, But I still can’t figure out all the sadness in your eyes It’s ok, I’ll wait here anyway, wait here for you to say You’re o.k. In Little Big Town, baby, I wish you would Come on back to me It’s lonely in this town, maybe if I were to Get down on my knees And Little Big Town baby, it stretches as far as we can see And it would be all right, if you were here with me

He lived in an Airstream He never talked to anyone And in all his silence he could hear the devil speak Calling him prodigal son He drove an 18-wheeler in the black of night Down highway 101 There she stood on the side of the road Just trying to get home This will not be pretty, this is not what you want to hear, This could be your daughter, this could be the year For Murder & Mayhem (in Humboldt County) Murder & Mayhem......... As soon as the door slammed shut She felt her body freeze and the fear came rushing in Six years down that bloody road he rolled And he reeked of the devil’s sin And if she believed in God and God believed in her Then the moment had arrived When he reached his hands to suffocate the angel Was God there by her side This will not be pretty, this is not what you want to hear, This could be your daughter, this could be the year For Murder & Mayhem (in Humboldt County) Murder & Mayhem (in Humboldt Co.) Oohhh, no, nooooooo Murder & Mayhem (in Humboldt County) Murder & Mayhem (in Humboldt County) Murder & Mayhem (in Humboldt County) Murder & Mayhem (in Humboldt County) In Humboldt, Humboldt, oh God forbid............

Don’t think I don’t notice you Staring at my body while I sing Your psychotic thoughts are rooted Way down deep inside your greed I know what sexy is, I wear it splendidly Don’t think that entitles you, entitles you to everything What if I came after you in the middle of the night You’d be the ugly coward in the unfair fight If I came after you in the middle of the night You’d be the ugly coward in the unfair fight, In the unfair fight Don’t think I don’t notice you outside my house at night I smell the stench of your sick desire, You still don’t have the right I know what sexy is, I wear it splendidly Don’t think that entitles you, entitles you to everything What if I came after you in the middle of the night You’d be the ugly coward in the unfair fight If I came after you in the middle of the night You’d be the ugly coward in the unfair fight, In the unfair fight What would you do? I’m coming after you What would you do? I’m coming after you I’m coming after you....... Don’t think I don’t notice you staring at my body tonight Your psychotic thoughts are lucid in this light They’re lucid in this light- You still don’t have the right What if I came after you in the middle of the night You’d be the ugly coward in the unfair fight If I came after you in the middle of the night You’d be the ugly coward in the unfair fight, In the unfair fight, in the unfair fight..... What if I came after you (What would you do?) What if I came after you (What would you do?) What if I came after you?

I look up at the happy little pockets of sunshine in the sky If I could reach up there and bring them down They would mirror what’s in your eye But was I the one? Was I the one? The jingle of the tambourine reminds me of a Dylan song today And praises of the prose that I was thinking of just fall along the way But were you the one? Were you the one? If you’re the one I’d hold on to, when it all falls down If you’re the one (I’d hold you down) Oh if you’re the one (I’d hold you down) ‘Cause if you’re the one I’d hold you closer Knowing all of the time that you, that you were the one Humankind surprises us just when we were all ready to be let down Hey, look, here comes that angel wearing nothing but a halo for a crown I can sleep well at night knowing that love lives in this house But if you are a dream then please expose yourself Let everything come out ‘Cause if you’re the one, if you’re the one If you’re the one I’d hold on to when it all falls down If you’re the one (I’d hold you down) Oh if you’re the one (I’d hold you down) ‘Cause if you’re the one I’d hold you closer Knowing all of the time that you, that you were the one If you’re the one (I’d hold you down) Oh if you’re the one (I’d hold you down) ‘Cause if you’re the one I’d hold you closer Knowing all of the time that you, that you were the one

The bridge patrol was only minutes late As they chased Georgie across the Golden Gate Nobody noticed at the party that she had gone The taxi driver didn’t see she had only boxers on They used to notice when Georgie would change her hair From eggplant to gorgeous china red They even noticed who Georgie took to bed Now they just say “hey man, did you hear that Georgie’s dead?” Just like the colors of prisms in blue skies, please don’t fade She was amazing, she was exquisite, please don’t fade Georgie had tattoos on both her wrists, Cover the scars with leaves and vines and twists All from the green of the tattoo pen To hide the truth until she would try it again Just like the colors of the Sistine Chapel, please don’t fade She was amazing, she was exquisite, please don’t fade Just like the colors, just like the colors, please don’t fade She was amazing, she was exquisite, please don’t fade And oh, they like to say they knew her when she was How they like to say they knew her when she was Happy --but Georgie was never happy The Bridge Patrol was only minutes late As Georgie jumped from the Golden Gate She saw the light of the city against the black of the sky And just for a second there was so much life in her eyes, in her eyes Just like the colors of the Lascaux Paintings, please don’t fade She was amazing, she was exquisite, please don’t fade Just like the colors, of prisms in blue skies, please don’t fade She was amazing, she was exquisite, please don’t fade Just like the colors, just like the colors, please don’t fade She was amazing, she was exquisite, please don’t fade..............

Vampires 04:07
Well, I'm food for the vampires but I always survive I'm forever a shelter but there's nowhere to hide I'm a mirror for the wicked, literature for the wise I'm that shadow that scares you when you look to your side Go on, go on, I wish this on no one, go on, go on Go on, go on, I wish this on no one, go on, go on I reflect you like water and you're sucking me dry If you believe that I'm a healer Then you're bound to deny everything I say Go on, go on, I wish this on no one, go on, go on Go on, go on, I wish this on no one, go on, go on I'm as hard as the lesson, I'm as soft as they get I can see you've been listening I can watch you forget everything I say Go on, go on, I wish this on no one, go on, go on Go on, go on, I wish this on no one, go on, go on

When the wind shakes the trees, I know it’s you And no one feels the breeze but me, it’s you And when the light points like fingers to earth, it’s you When my poppies bloom first, I know it’s you Heaven couldn’t keep you away from me now I don’t know why, and I don’t know how But I know, I know it’s you Amidst all the chaos there’s a moment of calm Or when a butterfly lands right in your palm When the sun in December burns warmer than Spring Then I know it is you in everything Heaven couldn’t keep you away from me now I don’t know why, and I don’t know how But I know, I know, I know, I know it’s you When I’m alone, I can hear your laughter And in everyone I can see your face From the sky, I can feel, I can feel you watching And in every touch is your embrace Heaven couldn’t keep you away from me now I don’t know why, and I don’t know how But I know, I know it’s you Heaven couldn’t keep you away from me now I don’t know why, and I don’t know how But I know, I know it’s you I know, I know it’s you, I know, I know it’s you

It was a life I never knew, I was a high wire dancer I was married to a gypsy man And our children, they rode elephants My sister worked at the concession stand Selling hot dogs to Americans My father, he was the muscle man He could lift 500 pounds in each hand All day... I could ride this train all day All day... I could ride this train all day It was a life I never knew, I was a trailer park junkie My veins a road map through Tennessee, Never knew who’d wake up next to me All day... I could ride this train all day All day... I could ride all day All day... I could ride all day It was a life I never knew I had a million bucks, maybe two I had everything, nothing to do I would sit out by my pool so blue I would sit out by my pool so blue.... All day... I could ride this train all day All day... I could ride all day All day... I could ride all day All day... I could ride this train all day

about

This album felt like an eternity to create because it started out with the idea that we weren't actually making a CD, but just doing demos of the songs. It morphed over time into a CD that truly feels like an album to me. The stories and emotions have threads that link them together. The reason why I called it "UNDER THESE SKIES" is because all and all, we are just humans facing life, love, loss, happiness and pain and we are all staring up at the same sky at night. We are bound by that.
