I thought this one up as I was on a train from San Francisco to Sacramento. It passed through some pretty amazing areas that I never would have seen otherwise and I began to think about the lives of all these different people along the way, and what if that was my life?
Another interesting note is that I was in the process of recording Little Big Town and was getting frustrated with my lack of piano skills and so I got off it for a second and played this song to get my mind somewhere else. Andre never took me out of record and this is what we got. We ended up putting it on the CD and I am so glad we did.
lyrics
It was a life I never knew, I was a high wire dancer
I was married to a gypsy man
And our children, they rode elephants
My sister worked at the concession stand
Selling hot dogs to Americans
My father, he was the muscle man
He could lift 500 pounds in each hand
All day... I could ride this train all day
All day... I could ride this train all day
It was a life I never knew, I was a trailer park junkie
My veins a road map through Tennessee,
Never knew who’d wake up next to me
All day... I could ride this train all day
All day... I could ride all day
All day... I could ride all day
It was a life I never knew
I had a million bucks, maybe two
I had everything, nothing to do
I would sit out by my pool so blue
I would sit out by my pool so blue....
All day... I could ride this train all day
All day... I could ride all day
All day... I could ride all day
All day... I could ride this train all day
