I used to drive up Hwy. 5 in California to see my grandparents in Shasta, and every time I went, I noticed this large piece of property with an old, decrepit house leaning over and about to just fall down entirely. The property had a sign for sale, saying "This could be your Land", and I always found that entertaining because of the state of the house. There was something endearing about it though, and it looked like it just needed someone to come along and prop it up with some love. On one trip I just started writing when I saw it and this tune came out. I rarely write lyric before music, but this time I did. It all came together and sort of encompasses a general search for home and happiness, wherever that may be.
lyrics
This Could Be Our Home
There’s an oak tree leaning toward the creek
And a willow is dead on its’ side
There’s a perfect place for a garden
Where somebody has already tried
Look there, there’s a part of a porch
That we can build up from
We just need some nails and paint
It’s all burned out from the sun
This could be our home, baby, this could be our home
This could be our home, baby, this could be our home
We could cut down all of the barbed wire and put up some kind of a gate
You know you’ve gotta’ shed some blood
When you want to lock up your love and tie in your fate
Can you feel it baby, how the planets are aligned?
I hope you wrote the number down
When we rolled past that sign
This could be our home, baby, this could be our home
This could be our home, baby, this could be our home
All we need is just a little love and
This could be our home, baby, this could be our home
In the heart of this land
There is a lost and a broken soul
It’s looking for love, baby
And it’s dying for a home
This could be our home, baby, this could be our home
This could be our home, baby, this could be our home
All we need is just a little love and
This could be our home, baby, this could be our home
